Description
Depart for a day of Mayan historical adventure to see some of the finest Maya Ruins in Belize. The drive through the hummingbird highway and the western villages of Belize is a cultural experience with first-hand views of the Mayan mountains, orchards, colorful homes, schools, and marketplaces.

Xunantunich is located in the Cayo District across from Benque Viejo Road near the village of San Jose Succotz just a few miles from Belize’s western border with Guatemala. At the village of San Jose Succotz, we cross over the Mopan River using a hand-cranked ferry. From the other side of the river, it’s a mile uphill to the site, which can be accessed on foot or in a vehicle.

Xunantunich Mayan ruin, also known as the “Maiden of the Rock” is the second tallest Mayan ruin in Belize. The largest pyramid, El Castillo stands 130 feet high above the main plaza and offers an impressive panoramic view of the Cayo District, Guatemala, and the Mopan River. The site has been largely excavated and has a well-appointed educational museum.

Great day!
Our driver Dirk was hilarious! He was also very knowledgeable about Belize and we enjoyed his conversation during the van ride. Junior and his son shared their vast knowledge of the Mayan history and culture and made visiting these ruins such an educational and engaging experience!

Unbelievable Day! Xunantunich, Cave Tubing &Inland Blue Hole
We had an incredible day on this tour booked with Get To Know Belize Adventure. Our driver, Dirk was really engaging & a delight to travel with all day. Great conversation, very funny man with a great laugh! The ruins were spectacular, and Junior took care of us, taking lots of photos and explaining the history of the area. Flooring on river in a dark cave was the most incredible experience! The blue ... more hole is so beautiful. The colours are unbelievable. I wouldn’t hesitate to do it again.

Unbelizeble!!!
Get to know Belize tour company is an Hopkins village, Belizean owned company that has made a good excursion, great! Dirk, I hope that's his name was an incredible tour guide that knew they history of Belize and the Mayan artifacts and ruins. His light heated conversation helped the two hour drive go by quick. I would recommend him in a heartbeat. Junior was okay very to the point. I can see how some ... more likes his style while others would like more details, the lunch, amazing authentic, fresh ingredients. You have to try a soda out of bottle. And Soursop yummy!!!

Xunantunich Ruins
My wife and I had a great time. From where we stayed was a bit over 2 hrs drive. Tour guide Junior was awesome and very informative and our shuttle driver who we used a few different times was awesome. We would definitely use Greg and this company again lunch was good just that was included. They were always very helpful and work out schedules to see everything we wanted with a decent price overall.

One of the best days in Belize. And all the days were hard to beat.
I don't know if anything I say can do the tour to Xunatunich from Hiokins Bay Resort via Get to know Belize aka Belizing! First of Josie was great to communicate with, she's prompt to answer and gives any updates, and post trip followup. We were picked up around 9 in the morning by Gabriel, I really can't say enough good things about this man. From the time he picked us up by the end of the day, I ... more felt like I had met a long lost family member. The trip which was a little over two hours each way, flew by. The scenery was beautiful and Gabriel told us facts about all the areas along the way, backstories of areas, things that he has seen here since the time he was a child, and much more about the history of just about everything. He showed us how to coax a tarantula out of a hole. Pointed out spider monkeys, parrots, picked out an amazing place to eat lunch, and the tour went at our speed. If we wanted to see something he waited and even showed us more. At Xunatunich he knew about everything about the Mayan civilization, and was current on what the universities were doing with new archeological excavations at Xunatunich and other Myan sites, not only about in Belize, but also in Guatemala across the border. The tour was supposed to be about 5-6 hours, but due to our curiosity Gabriel was out with us for about 9 hours, but at the end of the excursion it had flown bye, and I was saddened to say good bye to my new found brother on earth. If you read this and happen to see Gabriel please let him know that Mike says hi and that I hope his he, his family, and his people are doing well, with much love from Nebraska.

Xunantunich Tour
We had Gabriel (Gabby) as a guide. He was awesome. Super knowledgable and pointed out very interesting things during the drive to and from Xunantunich. Gabby also made the tour of Xunantunich awesome with all of his knowledge. He made sure we were comfortable, and it was awesome to share lunch with him.

Loved this Excursion!
My family of six truly enjoyed this trip to Xunantunich. Julian, our driver, was so friendly and knowledgeable. The scenery is beautiful. Our Mayan guide was easy going and fun - knowledgeable on the ruins and philosophical about life. Our lunch in San Ignacio was delicious. Belizing is great. I would highly recommend them for all tours and activities.

Great, friendly tour service, truly fascinating tour
I would absolutely use belizing.com again. Our driver was friendly and knowledgeable about the area, so the drive to the Maya site was interesting even though it was long. He answered all of our questions about local trees and industries and animals. Our tour guide in the Maya ruin itself was enthusiastic and smart and very encouraging - I was a little anxious to be up so high off the ground a couple ... more of times, but his comfort helped me feel more confident.
