Island Hopping with Cultural Experiences Belize: A Day of History, Adventure & Island Flavors
There’s something special about spending a day surrounded by turquoise waters, good food, great company, and the beauty of Belize. Our recent FAM Trip with Cultural Experiences Belize took us on an unforgettable island-hopping adventure, where we experienced a little bit of everything, from learning about the history of Placencia to snorkeling, enjoying fresh seafood, relaxing on the beach, and exploring the vibrant atmosphere of King Lewey’s Island.
Starting the Journey
Our day started bright and early with Belize Ground Shuttle, which picked us up and got the team on the road. After making a quick stop for breakfast, we continued our journey toward the marina.
When we arrived, Akeem and Ixi from Cultural Experiences were already there waiting to welcome us. We were greeted with warm smiles and friendly energy before getting settled and preparing to begin our island adventure.
Before boarding, Akeem and I shared our greetings and welcoming remarks with the team. Then, it was time to hop aboard Akeem’s boat and officially begin the journey.
A History Lesson on the Way to the Islands
One of the things that made this experience different was that the adventure wasn't simply about visiting beautiful islands. Along the way, Akeem shared fascinating stories about the history of Placencia and the surrounding coastal communities.
As we made our way across the water, he spoke about the days when pirates were based around St. George’s Caye and would travel along the coast in search of fresh water.
He also shared stories about migration and the different groups of people who came to southern Belize, helping shape the communities and culture we know today.
Akeem told us about Monkey River, which once served as home to many people in the area and played an important role in Belize’s banana industry. As the industry changed, many residents eventually moved to other communities, including Independence.
Hearing these stories while actually traveling along Belize’s coastline made the history feel much more personal. We weren't just learning about Belize's past; we were experiencing the very landscapes connected to these stories.
A Little "Cook & Catch" Before Moho Caye
Before reaching Moho Caye, we made a fun stop that quickly became one of the memorable moments of the morning.
Akeem took us through a little “cook and catch” experience, catching fresh lobster from the sea that would later become part of our lunch.
There’s something special about knowing that the seafood you're about to eat was caught right there in the waters surrounding you. It gave us an even greater appreciation for the meal that was waiting for us.
After our stop, we continued toward Moho Caye.
Welcome to Moho Caye
As soon as we arrived at Moho Caye, the entire atmosphere shifted.
The water was incredibly clear, the surroundings were peaceful, and the island provided the perfect setting to slow down and enjoy the morning.
We set up camp and settled in before heading into the water for some snorkeling. Others chose to swim, relax along the beach, or simply take in the scenery.
While we were enjoying the island, Ixi was busy preparing what would become one of the day's biggest highlights: lunch!
Fresh Seafood & an Island Feast
If there was one thing the entire team could agree on, it was that the food was amazing.
Our lunch featured barbecue chicken, fresh lobster, crab, macaroni salad, pico de gallo, and more.
Enjoying a freshly prepared meal surrounded by beautiful Caribbean waters was an experience in itself. The seafood was definitely a favorite, and there was no shortage of compliments around the table.
It was the kind of meal that made everyone slow down, enjoy their food, and appreciate the moment.
From Moho Caye to King Lewey’s Island
After lunch, we packed up and continued to our next destination: King Lewey’s Island.
The atmosphere changed almost immediately when we arrived.
While Moho Caye offered a more peaceful and laid-back island experience, King Lewey’s brought a fun, lively, pirate-themed atmosphere.
The private island features a variety of games, places to relax, and a restaurant where visitors can enjoy food and drinks. Whether you're traveling with friends, family, or simply looking for somewhere different to spend the day, there is plenty to keep you entertained.
For anyone looking for an island-hopping experience that combines relaxation, adventure, food, and entertainment, this is definitely an experience worth adding to your Belize itinerary.

Of course, we couldn't end the day without asking the team what they enjoyed most and what advice they would give to future travelers.
Laijanni: Come for the Water, Stay for the Food
For Laijanni, her favorite part of the trip was pretty straightforward:
“My favorite part was, of course, enjoying the water!!! And the FOOD!!”
And honestly, we couldn't blame her!
Her recommendations were practical and fun. If you're bringing a hat, she strongly suggests bringing one with a drawstring because the island breeze can definitely have other plans for your hat! 😂
She also recommends bringing a personal cup to help minimize plastic waste, keeping a power bank close by, and, most importantly, bringing good energy.
Brayden: Great Views, Great Conversations & Good Energy
For Brayden, it was the overall atmosphere that made the experience stand out.
“The best part of the experience for me was definitely the atmosphere, meeting new people, enjoying good conversations, relaxing, and simply having a great time.”
He loved the incredible views and the opportunity to connect with everyone throughout the day.
Brayden's biggest recommendation is to bring plenty of sunscreen. After spending the day under the Belizean sun, he learned that lesson the hard way!
He also recommends bringing goggles if you plan on swimming. Sunglasses didn't quite do the job for him, especially when dealing with salt water.
Overall, Brayden described the experience as:
“A memorable experience filled with great people, good views, and plenty of fun.”
Jocelyn: Good Company & Amazing Seafood
For Jocelyn, the company was one of the biggest highlights of the day.
“What I enjoyed most about the trip was definitely the company. I feel like enjoying a beautiful view with good company is what makes a trip truly special.”
And, of course, she couldn't talk about the experience without mentioning the food!
Jocelyn especially loved the seafood, describing it as absolutely amazing. From the lobster to the crab, the fresh seafood was definitely one of the culinary highlights of the trip.
Her recommendation for future travelers is to bring spray sunscreen instead of relying solely on sunscreen lotion another useful tip after spending a full day enjoying the Belizean sun.
My Final Takeaway
What made this FAM Trip special wasn't just one particular activity or destination. It was the combination of everything.
We started our morning learning about the history of Placencia and the communities along the coast. We traveled across the Caribbean Sea, caught fresh lobster, snorkeled in clear waters, relaxed on the beach, enjoyed an incredible island lunch, and ended the day exploring a pirate-themed private island.
But beyond the destinations, it was the people, conversations, food, laughter, and atmosphere that made the experience memorable.
