Description
Caracol, Rio Frio Cave, Rio On PoolsCaracol, Rio Frio Cave, Rio On Pools The largest Maya city ever excavated in Belize, Caracol is a huge site that features majestic temples that modern visitors can climb to enjoy a spectacular view of the surrounding Chiquibul forest reserve. Still an active archaeological site, Caracol has revealed many of its treasures but much work is needed to uncover all of its secrets. After exploring the impressive ruins of Caracol, you’ll continue to explore Mountain Pine Ridge with stops at Rio On Pools and Rio Frio Cave for a refreshing swim in the crystal clear waters. You will also enjoy a homemade Belizean lunch.
Barton Creek Cave Canoeing & Zipline or 1000 Ft FallsBegin the journey by driving through farmland where you can see the Mennonite community of Upper Barton Creek and experience their traditional lifestyle. Upon reaching Barton Creek, you will board your canoe and paddle into the remote Barton Creek Cave. Glide into a hidden cave entrance that’s surrounded by water and explore a deep series of passages that were sacred to the ancient Maya. Use your headlight to illuminate crystal formations and dangling stalactites and learn about the cave’s ceremonial history. Slip into the water for a cool swim before enjoying a local lunch. Following lunch you will enjoy a fly through the jungle on your zipline adventure. Via 4 runs and 7 platforms you explore the jungle canopy overhead and end this tour via the exciting jungle lift run OR Stop and marvel at the tallest waterfall in Belize — and one of the tallest in Central America — Thousand Foot Falls. The altitude of this impressive cascade actually surpasses its name with an astonishing 1,600-foot (490-meter) drop off a cliff. Admire the falls from a viewing platform. If you're up for a hike in the area just ask your guide!
