Escape to Bananas on the Beach: Top San Pedro Belize Resort

By 6/11/2026 3 minutes

A Relaxing Beachfront Escape at Bananas On The Beach in San Pedro, Belize

There’s something different about arriving in San Pedro, Ambergris Caye. The moment the water taxi approaches the island, everything begins to slow down a little. The sea breeze feels stronger, the colours feel brighter, and the energy shifts from busy schedules to island time almost instantly. Our recent overnight stay at Bananas On The Beach gave us the opportunity to experience that feeling firsthand while exploring one of San Pedro’s most laid-back beachfront properties. Our journey began in Belize City, where we boarded the Caribbean Sprinter early that morning. The trip to San Pedro always feels like the true start of the adventure. Watching the open water stretch around us as we approached San Pedro, Ambergris Caye, created the perfect anticipation that makes island travel in Belize so memorable.

Upon arriving at the San Pedro water taxi terminal, we found ourselves with some time to spare before our scheduled hotel transfer. We took the opportunity to explore the lively surrounding area, soaking in the immediate sights and sounds of the island. When it was time for our pickup, we were met by Carlos, an incredibly friendly and professional driver from the Bananas On The Beach team. Getting into the hotel shuttle immediately made the experience feel welcoming and seamless; instead of worrying about navigating luggage through town, Carlos ensured we could just sit back and settle into the island experience right away. Driving through San Pedro toward the property gave us a front-row seat to the local atmosphere: golf carts moving through colourful streets, beachfront restaurants buzzing with activity, and that easygoing energy that makes San Pedro one of Belize’s most loved destinations

Established in 2023 and boasting 64 beautifully appointed rooms, Bananas On The Beach feels deeply connected to the island lifestyle visitors crave. The beachfront setting, tropical landscaping, open-air spaces, and relaxed atmosphere immediately created the feeling of being miles away from the fast pace of everyday life. As we stepped onto the property, we were warmly greeted by Ms Elida, the Reservations Manager of Grand Caribe, and Mr Edwin, the General Manager of Bananas On The Beach. Their genuine hospitality made the check-in process completely seamless. After dropping off our bags, Mr Edwin and Ms Elida guided us on a comprehensive, two-hour property tour. Exploring the various spaces available to guests, one of the first things that stood out was how naturally the property blends modern comfort with its beachfront surroundings.

We were delighted to find that the resort features two distinct pool areas, offering guests the perfect choice for layout vibes. Whether you want to be right in the center of the resort's gentle morning energy or tuck away into a more secluded, quiet pocket for an afternoon dip, they have a space to match your mood.

Whether you are standing near the pool, walking along the beachfront areas, or relaxing on your balcony, the ocean never feels far away. There’s a constant barrier-reef breeze moving through the space, and the overall atmosphere feels calm and inviting without trying too hard to be overly formal.

Following the property tour, the resort extended another exceptional service by providing a complimentary golf cart for the duration of the stay. Having convenient transportation readily available directly at the property ensured a seamless experience, making it incredibly easy to head out and explore Ambergris Caye at a relaxed, comfortable pace.

Our room matched that feeling: comfortable, clean, welcoming, and thoughtfully designed for travelers who want to fully enjoy the slower pace of island living. Natural light filled the space, and the relaxed beachfront environment carried effortlessly into our private quarters.

One of the things we appreciated most during the stay was how easy it felt to transition between relaxing at the hotel and exploring San Pedro itself. The location creates a perfect balance where guests can enjoy quiet beachfront moments while remaining just minutes away from the energy of the town.

Later in the afternoon, we experienced the onsite spa, which honestly became one of the highlights of the entire trip. After weeks filled with deadlines, content planning, and busy schedules, taking time to completely disconnect felt necessary in the best way possible.

We were treated to an incredibly relaxing Swedish massage by Shirley and Marleni, whose skilled techniques added another layer to the stay. It transformed our overnight trip from a standard hotel visit into a genuinely refreshing retreat. Between the quiet atmosphere, the wellness-focused setup, and the slower pace of the afternoon, it became one of those moments where you lose track of time without even realizing it.

As evening approached, the island atmosphere around the property shifted once again. The lighting softened, the breeze cooled down, and everything around the beach seemed to slow even further.

For dinner, we visited Gonzalo and the Princess, an exceptional dining experience connected to the Grand Caribe family alongside Bananas On The Beach. Upon arriving, we met Ms. Julissa, the floor manager, who made us feel right at home.

Our server for the evening was Janette, who has the most outstanding PR skills. She went completely above and beyond, making our night seamless and incredibly memorable. The setting created the perfect continuation of the evening, combining exceptional dining, warm lighting, vibrant island flavours, and a relaxed atmosphere that fit naturally into the overall experience of the trip.

What stood out throughout the entire evening was how effortless everything felt. Nothing about the stay felt rushed or overly structured. Instead, the experience allowed us to enjoy San Pedro the way many travelers hope to, slowly, comfortably, and fully present in the moment.

Island Mornings & Lasting Impressions

The following morning may have ended up being our favourite part of the entire stay

Starting the day with breakfast by the pool while listening to the nearby ocean created one of those simple Belize travel moments that stay with you long after the trip is over. Coffee in hand, warm sunshine reflecting across the water, and the peaceful atmosphere around the property made it incredibly easy to forget that we were only staying for one night.

Enhancing this morning experience even further, the resort is currently working on an exciting new culinary addition: an on-site food truck. Stationed right at the property, it will soon be offering a dedicated breakfast and lunch menu, providing guests with even more convenient, casual dining options just steps from the beach and pool areas.

Even while capturing content throughout the trip, there were several moments where it became easy to stop filming altogether and simply enjoy the experience. That alone says a lot about the atmosphere Bananas on the Beach creates for its guests.

Although our stay was brief, the experience delivered exactly what so many travelers look for when planning a Belize island getaway: beachfront relaxation, welcoming hospitality, comfort, convenience, and the ability to fully embrace island life at your own pace.

For travelers planning a visit to Ambergris Caye, Bananas On The Beach offers more than just a place to lay your head. It creates the kind of environment that allows visitors to slow down, reconnect, and experience the easygoing beauty that makes Belize unforgettable
