Howler monkeys are found only in the rainforests of the Americas. They have big necks and lower jaws, where their super-sized vocal cords are housed. They live high in the trees and hang from branches by their tails. To mark their territory, the howlers make loud vocalizations.

Once we come to the banks of the Mopan River, we will cross on a hand-operated ferry before arriving across grassy plazas, where you will marvel at the architecture of El Castillo, one of the largest Maya Temples of Belize, and the largest structure at Xunantunich. El Castillo stands 130 feet above plaza level, with its reconstructed East and West friezes representing the Gods of the Maya and several inner chambers. We’ll also move through other temples and courtyards where kings, queens, and their elite carried out special ceremonies. Xunantunich has an excellent display center at the site, and you will have a chance to climb the “stairway to heaven” on El Castillo. This vantage point provides a breathtaking panoramic view of surrounding rivers and towns as well as Guatemala. After the tour, we enjoy a nice meal at a local restaurant in the town of San Ignacio. We make a stop on the way back on the Hummingbird Highway at St Herman Blue Hole for its natural turquoise pool surrounded by mosses and lush vegetation the perfect spot for an afternoon swim.

The first part of the adventure is swimming and wading through the awesome array of stalagmites and stalactites and other limestone feature before reaching the Stella Chamber and the Main Chamber. The Main Chamber is about one kilometer from the cave entrance. To enter these chambers, you need to remove your shoes but wear socks. Your guide will show you and explain the amazing number of valuable artifacts used in Mayan rites. These artifacts include the Skeletal Remains of 14 individuals, 150 ceramic pots, stingray spines and obsidian blades used for bloodletting, grinding stones, whistles and dried remains of corn and other plant remains. These remain in place just as they were when they were discovered about 25 years ago. At the far end of the Main Chamber, you will find the Chrystal Maiden, a young girl who was sacrificed as part of agricultural fertility rites.

Altun Ha Mayan Ruin (Rock Stone Pond) is the Mayan Ruin which is the temple of the “Green Tomb.” Altun Ha consists of two plazas that include four ceremonial temples and two residential complexes. At this Maya site in Belize, you can still climb to the top of the temples and enjoy the view of the Belize forest. The highest temple is approximately 16 meters. It was considered one of the wealthiest Maya sites in Belize as a result of the biggest carved Jade head which was found in the masonry temple which is the highest temple.
After the guided excursion to Altun Ha, your Guide will take you to a local restaurant to enjoy a traditional Belizean lunch. if you wish, we can take you to interact with Snake, accompanied by a famous snake man in Belize. After lunch, we head back to Belize City to continue our day tour of Belize City.
On this fully guided tour around historic Belize City, where you will enjoy this educational tour to visit several locations. Such as the ancient swing bridge over Haulover Creek, then we head through busy downtown streets of the city to the Anglican cathedral in Central America, St. John’s Cathedral built from bricks used as ballast in sailing ships of old.
