Description

The design in collaboration with artist Frank Tzib, illustrates the maize god, sitting on top of the head variant glyph. We intended to depict and honor the culinary tradition of many households in San Ignacio.

Corn is not only a staple crop in Belize for the making of handmade corn tortillas (my favourites sold onsite), but corn also had an important role in the Maya creation myths.

The Popol Vuh, a sacred Maya book, describes how the gods formed the first humans from a dough made out of yellow and white maize after their attempts to use straw, clay and wood failed.
