Who must get a Test in Belize?
This service is for
travelers who are departing Belize and require a test at their next destination. The CDC requires ALL travelers, including US citizens, to have a medically certified negative test before boarding their flight to the United States. This also includes travelers who transit through the United States. You cannot board your flight in Belize if you don't have a certified negative test result required by your destination.

What type of test is required?
The CDC requires a viral test. Both the Rapid Antigen and PCR tests will satisfy this requirement. We provide both types of tests. The Rapid Antigen test is the most popular and cheaper test of the two.
Is PCR Testing available?
Yes, Belize Diagnostic Center offers PCR testing with same-day results. If you are traveling to Canada, Europe, and some Caribbean countries, you must have a PCR test within 72 hours of departure. Belize Diagnostic Center uses FDA-approved PCR test kits with results provided within 2 hours or less.
What is the cost for a Covid test?
The cost for Rapid Antigen testing in Belize is $75 per person. This cost includes a medically certified test result in both printed and digital form that will be accepted by your airline for travel departure. A test team will come to you to administer the test. There is no additional cost to get tested at the convenience of your hotel. The PCR tests start at $200 per person, or $250 at your hotel or rental.
Can Emed self test kits be used?
No, the self-test kits are not legal in Belize (regulation 39 of the Public Health Act - SI#151). The customs department continues to confiscate self-test kits at the airport. The reason is that the Ministry of Health has placed strict controls on the importation of tests because they require reporting of all test results. The CDC order indicates that tests must be approved by the local authority, and self-test kits are not approved in Belize. Therefore, your airline agent could deny boarding if you have results from self-test kits offered through emed or a similar service.
When should I test for Travel?
Testing must be done before boarding your departure flight. The timeline depends on your destination. If you are traveling to the United States (including travelers transiting), you must take your test within 1 day of your departure, regardless of citizenship or vaccination status.
Update: The CDC has announced that starting on December 6, 2021, ALL travelers must test within 1 day of their return flight to the US.
*Note The testing requirement specifies "days" and not hours. Specifically, your test can be done anytime in the day before your departure flight. You can also test on the day of your flight, but we do not recommend waiting for last minute testing. For example, if you depart on Monday, your test should be done on Sunday. Our testing services are available 7 days per week for your convenience.

Does Insurance cover Covid Test in Belize?
You must consult with your insurance provider. We cannot bill your insurance provider, but many travelers are able to get reimbursement from their insurance provider. Belizing cannot provide an itemized receipt for your Covid Test. We can only provide one receipt per booking. If you require itemized receipts, you can book and pay each test individually.
