Our Journey starts from San Pedro (Ambergris Caye) where you will get your boat tickets (the boat ride consists of one hour & 30 minutes, Water Taxi transfer from San Pedro to ... moreBelize City in which you will be able to see Caye Caulker, Caye Chapel and much more, arriving in Belize city water taxi terminal, where you will meet your tour guide. From there you board a private vehicle with your guide as you begin your road trip on the George Price Highway to Xunantunich (which is approx one hour and a half driving) explore the site, have lunch, and head to Caves Branch. The Mayans made use of the land and its terrains, as they did so above the surface they also did so below the surface. The Mayans believed that the caves were an entrance to Xibalba “a place of fear” related to death. It is completely so because the Mayans used the caves to perform death rituals and also the river flowing through these caves provided a secret passageway to ambush enemies.
Cave Tubing into a cave system at Caves Branch. After reaching the Caves Branch Archaeological Reserve you will hike for about 30 minutes through the Belize Rain Forest and through a couple of dry caves until you come to the opening of the first cave through which the underground Caves Branch river flows. This is where the REAL fun begins as you will be assisted in getting into your inner tube to begin floating through the caves. It's a short but amazing journey of about 45 minutes to an hour. Our tubes with headrests are linked so there is no need to hold onto someone else's feet and you are guided by a licensed and experienced tour guide :) At the end of the tour, we will head back to the water taxi terminal.

Understanding why this cave was of such sacred importance to the Mayas requires an understanding of their spirituality. In the Maya religion, the gods of agriculture, rain, and fertility were believed to reside in the underworld. It would only seem natural that the ATM Cave, with its seemingly endless pits, would be seen as a potential gateway to the underworld. By making human sacrifices within the cave, they could appeal to these important gods practically at their front door.
Guests should dress as if preparing for a hike, bringing comfortable clothes and sturdy closed-toe shoes. Bear in mind that no cameras are allowed within the cave. The prohibition of cameras prevents damage to remaining skeletons and artifacts and preserves ATM for future generations.

After trekking an ancient home of the Maya, you’ll head west for a 90-minute drive towards Jaguar Paw for tubing. Once at the outpost, you will meet your tour guides who will issue inflatable tubes, headlamps, and life vests. You’ll be given a basic orientation and safety briefing before heading off on a 30-minute hike which includes wading through a few knee-deep water streams. Don’t let the hike worry you though; as it’s mostly on flat terrain, it is enjoyable and informative. It’s shaded by the rainforest canopy and our tour guides will point out flora and fauna noteworthy to the area. Once at the entrance of the cave system, it’s time for your cave-tubing adventure through the ancient Maya underworld. Inside, you’ll see intricate crystalline formations that line the cave with a majestic rise and fall of stalagmites and stalactites that add to the serene richness and grandiosity of Xibalba as it’s known.

“In that moment, you realize you’re standing where Maya kings addressed their people over 1,500 years ago. Altun Ha Mayan Site is located just 30 miles north of Belize City. This small and impressive Maya ruin offers detailed information about this amazing civilization that existed in this part of the world thousands of years ago. This tour starts in Belize City. You will be picked up from anywhere you choose within the Belize City area by your licensed driver/guide. You will then be driven north of Belize City for approximately 1 hour. Along the way, your guide will be providing valuable information about our beautiful country. You also get to view the historic Belize River and pass through several villages as well. Once at the site, you will get a chance to use the restrooms, after which you will make your way to the entrance of the site, where your driver/guide will be waiting. Before entering the site, your guide will have you go through the museum, where you will be presented with much more information about the site. You will then make your way to the site itself to view the amazing structures in the two plazas.
