Belize Health App Now Available - Here is the App Guide.

The Belize Travel Health App, a newly launched mobile application that is part of Belize's phased reopening plan, is now available for download on Android, iPhone, and iPad devices.

The Belize Health App was created to streamline airport processing and health screening for entry into Belize. It will also allow for daily health monitoring of arriving passengers, location monitoring, and for contact tracing, if necessary.

*This is the icon for the official Belize Health App. The health app is NOT the Belizing app, and is NOT available on the Android app store. See below for instructions if you have an Android device.
All visitors are encouraged to download the free Health App on their mobile device and fill in the necessary information no more than 72 hours prior to arrival in Belize. After filling out the eight-step application process, a unique QR code will be provided which should be presented to health authorities at the international airport upon arrival. 

Update Everyone departing Belize to the United States must now present a negative COVID-19 test before boarding their flight in Belize, per new CDC requirements.

Getting errors on the app? Try deleting and reinstalling the app. You must have the latest version of the app. For Android users, you must have the latest Android OS version. There are currently some bugs and other technical issues in the app. If it rejects your first name, make sure it has no spaces after the name, and click the "next" button on your keyboard.

*Please note that Belize still allows entry without the app for travelers without a smart device.

Android Installation

The app is provided as a direct download for Android devices. It is not yet available on the Google Play app store or any other third party app stores for Android. To download the app on your Android device you may need to take extra steps to allow the installation. Follow these recommendations:

  • Long Press on the download link (see below) and choose "Download Link"
  • The app will be downloaded as a file
  • You will need to open to file to start the installation
  • You need to allow third party sources in your device security settings

This app is developed and published by the Government of Belize. Belizing.com is NOT the developer of this app, and neither do we provide official technical support for this app. The app is required for entry, but if it doesn't work for you then Belize still allows entry without the app.

How Does the App Work?

The app should be installed on your mobile device. The app is available for iPhone, iPad, and Android devices. You may install and register your account in the app at anytime, but you should not fill in the travel details until your arrival to Belize is within 72 hours.

The QR Code will expire within 72 hours of issue. If it expires before you arrive in Belize, simply resubmit your information to acquire a new QR Code.

Internet Connection: The app requires an Internet connection to submit the entry forms. You do NOT need to have cell data or an Internet connection while you are visiting Belize. You may only need it to retrieve the QR code. We recommend taking a screenshot of your QR code as a backup if the Internet is unavailable when you need to retrieve your QR code.

You will present your QR code to authorities as you arrive at the airport. Some airlines will ask to see your QR code before boarding to Belize. If you have trouble downloading or registering in the app, please inform your airline rep that Belize allows entry without the app.

1. Create an Account

After you install the app, you must register your login account and confirm your email. Make sure you enter your valid email address. A verification code will be sent to your email address to confirm your account. This ensures that your email address is valid. Once your email is verified, you will be authenticated in the app.

STOP: Do not go past this point in the app until your arrival to Belize is within 72 hours.

2. Register your Trip

Here is what the rest of the process will entail. It is a simple 8-step application form after which a unique QR code will be provided to you.

Each adult traveler (ages 16+) must have their own QR code. At this time, you are not able to create multiple QR codes with the same device.

The app will guide you through 2 forms.

First, you will enter your Arrival Form. This is similar to an immigration entry form where you will enter your personal details and passport information. It is not yet clear if this will be used as an immigration form. You should still expect to fill in immigration and customs paperwork upon arrival.

*Some fields will require you to select pre-populated information. The app does not have the best user experience and some fields may take up to 1 minute to load the available options after you tap on the field. One example is when you must select a gold standard hotel opion. Don't worry, the app is just slow sometimes but it works (most of the time).

Purpose of your Trip: In step 4 you will select the purpose of your trip. This effectively determines where you can stay. If you are a foreign tourist visiting for "Vacation Only" then you will be required to stay at a Gold Standard accommodation.

If you are visiting for any other purpose, the app will allow you to specify any other accommodation. Anyone visiting for any purpose other than "vacation only" can stay anywhere. No booking or reservation at Gold Standard accomodation is necessary if you are visiting for anything other than "vacation only". For example, you may be visiting to explore retirement, or for business, sport, wedding, honeymoon, or to visit family, etc. Only foreign tourists who are visiting for vacation only are required to have a booking or reservation at approved gold standard accommodation.

If you are visiting for vacation only, then you must ensure that you have a booking at a Gold Standard property.

In step 5 you must enter information for a contact person. It is not clear what contact person is required here. We recommend using the contact name and number of the gold standard program manager at your gold standard hotel, or a family member who is not traveling with you, or your contact person in Belize if you are on official or business travel.

Steps 6 & 7 are a health pre-screening form. If you have your negative PCR test done, then you will select *Yes* for the third question in step 6.

Step 7 asks about symptoms you may have previously experienced if you were previously diagnosed with COVID-19 or had to visit a health facility for any reason. If none of these apply, leave all the options unchecked and proceed.

In the last step, you will enter the number of minors traveling with you (age under 16), and their names. If no minors are traveling with you then enter the number ZERO in this field or leave it blank. Only one parent or guardian will need to register accompanying minors. All adults (16+) must submit a separate form from their own device.

3. QR Code

If your submission is successful, the app will generate a unique QR Code and ID for you. You may take a screenshot of this just in case. Keep in mind that the code expires after 72 hours, after which you will need to submit another form to create a new ID.

While the code is still valid on your device, it will open directly to the code when you open the app.

Data Connection: You must have cellular data connection or WiFi on the mobile device to retrieve your QR Code. The airport has free WiFi available. However, we strongly recommend taking a screenshot of your valid QR code just before you depart for Belize to avoid any data connection issues as you arrive.

Privacy Concerns

The Health app requires you to allow geolocation access and notifications. The app will be used to communicate with you and monitor your movement while in Belize.

The app is provided by the Belize Ministry of Health (MOH). The app terms and conditions state that the app is managed by third party entities, and any personal information you submit is accessed by those third parties. Your personal information may also be shared with certain regulatory entities in Belize including the Belize Tourism Board, Statistical Institute of Belize, and the Belize Department of Immigration and Nationality. Your personal information, including geolocation records, are also subject to disclosure for other legal purposes.

Note that by visiting Belize, and accepting the terms and conditions of this app, you are explicitly waiving certain rights and expectations of privacy of any personal information that you submit via the app. By explicitly consenting to the app terms and conditions, you agree to the health and safety regulations including the requirement to wear masks, maintain social distancing, and remain within the safe corridor. You also agree to be placed in quarantine at your own expense if you test positive upon arrival in Belize or anytime during your stay in Belize.

We recommend that you read the terms and conditions of the app very carefully.

If you do not agree to the terms of the app or cannot use the app for any reason, paper forms will be available at the airport.




What if I do not have a mobile device?
Travelers who do not have a mobile device may utilize paper forms available at the airport. It is highly recommended that you obtain a mobile device or tablet to minimize any delays or issues at the airport. Some airlines may deny boarding to passengers who do not present the app.
What if the app does not work?
Try deleting and reinstalling the app. If you still have issues with the app, please contact the Belize Tourism Board, Toll Free 1-800-624-0686. Note that Belizing.com is not involved in the app development and cannot provide technical support for the app. You must contact the Belize Tourism Board or Belize Ministry of Health directly. Our cell service doesn’t have international for Belize(US Cellular) our AirBNB has WiFi, but we have excursions planned...so we have to be on a service plan during this or will it just track us via our cell location tracking?? It could be a space at the end of your name. Make sure there's no spaces and click on the next button to clear the error. Hope that helps.

I was only given a rapid test on arrival. I waited on an airport bench just 30minutes for the results. It cost 50usd. Good luck

This is a late response to your request, but maybe it will help someone else. We waited 10 or 15 minutes to get the test, and only 5-10 minutes for the result. The big problem of the day was trying to get out of the US on American Airlines, where not one of the first 12 people with whom I spoke believed that we could leave the US without a test result. The 3rd manager--after about 9 employees--was ... more aware of the Belize requirements, showed the rest how and why that was. We were two and a half hours prior to flight, and were the last to board, and that was after the final call for the flight. In the meantime, my husband was returning a rental car and I wasn't allowed to check his bag separately, and was told that even though it was business class, with two bags free as luggage, that I would have to pay $140. for the 2 "extra" bags. I had to have another manager come out and explain to the baggage handler, who then told me I was lucky he was willing to take the manager's word for it, and said that although it was not required, a gratuity would certainly be well-received. He still hadn't put the tags on the luggage, so I gave him $20, and vowed never, ever to fly American again. Fly Delta, even if it's a round-about route. They know the rules, follow then completely, and also insist on passengers following the mask rules. On American, people took off their masks when they received anything to drink, and left them off for the rest of the flight. I've heard the same story from several others.

Where does the vaccine come into play here? My husband has had the first vaccine and will have both doses prior to our trip in March. Much like others, it currently takes 5-7 days to get PCR results which does not work for the app so you have to get tested at the airport (another $50 and lost time). Suggestions? Solutions?

I can get the test for the quick results but that is not what Belize is asking for. I have talked to others and the can get the PCR test back in less than a day,,,but they live in NYC. I have signed int the website and when I click on links they lead me to nowhere. I am a bit confused on how this app is supposed to work because I cannot find anything on the app that you website shows as an example. We want to come to Belize (again) ... more but to be honest, I am almost at the point of just choosing another destination because of the trouble I am having getting all of this information/app to work. I do not want to wait until the last minute and not have this app working and then be out the money on the trip because something was not working correctly. Also, if we wait to take the test in the airport, how long will we be sitting there waiting for results?

It is not a Belizing app. The app is developed by the government of Belize. Unfortunately, it is not on the google play store for Android. Therefore, to download and install it may require you to override some security settings on your phone to allow third party installation. To download the app, please follow the instructions on this page....long press on the download link and select the option to ... more download. Clicking ont he link may not work because of security precautions on your phone since it's a direct download. Hope that helps. Paper forms would be available at the airport, but you should try to pre register in the app. Maybe you can borrow a device and print the code. As we understand, all returning residents are tested at the airport.

This should be possible under phase 4 of the reopening plans which is scheduled for sometime in January 2021. Technically, you currently only need to have a "reservation" at a gold standard hotel for entry into the country. There is no regulation or enforcement, as far as we're aware, on where you actually stay during your entire time in Belize. You still need to always follow all other regulations ... more including social distancing (not more than 10 people, no private parties, etc), mask wearing, and possible daily curfew.

No date has been set. January is a tentative schedule for phase 4. However, a long as your preferred hotel or vacation rental is gold standard certified, you are able to stay. A full updated list of gold standard hotels is available on Belizing.com

The BZ tourism sector was a bad option pre-pandemic because of crime. Now the cost of traveling there has increased by $50.00, plus costs at the origin country. Then you have airport ground staff posing as health professionals??? I see clearly what is happening in BZ and the end result economically will not be good. Safe Corridor is just plain bad thinking.

It is clear that health professionals in BZ don't know exactly what they are dealing with or how to deal with it. They certainly don't understand what a positive or negative reading means. Even a positive reading and it's potential to becoming active or stay inactive ... more is not being handled correctly. What I have learned since February 2020 is that you don't want to be in a third world country when things go wrong. Belize is one such country. Still, I have to thank God for letting these blind Belizean people enact this program which in effect will keep us sane, healthy people away.

I see that tests are available at the airport for $50; however, why should I get tested at the airport when I can get tested for free in the US. It just happens to take 4-5 days to get a result rather than the required 72 hours required for the app.

The current requirement is to have the test within 72 hours of travel. It sounds like the airport testing is your only option if you cannot meet the 72-hour timeframe. Keep in mind that you can still be selected for testing at the airport even if you bring a recent valid test result. It's ultimately at the discretion of the health officer.

I don't think it's necessary to explain that. You'll only need to specify the Gold Standard hotel. I believe the hotel will log when you leave on the charter and when you get back...I'm sure the charter company will do the same. As far as the app, these details don't need to be logged on the form used for entry into Belize.

Doubt it, except you may be flagged for additional screening at the airport. Make sure you note it in the app, and try to bring a negative PCR test. If they do an antibody test at the airport, it could show positive since you had it in the past. I would recommend coming prepared with a recent negative test and any other documentation to show that you've recovered and not a risk anymore to spread the ... more virus.

They had mentioned that it was pending approval. For now it’s a direct download and you may need to temporarily enable third party sources to install it. We haven’t tested the android version yet.

One bit of feedback: the date selection control on ios devices is very easy and straightforward; the date selection control on android devices requires one to scroll month by month to select the desired date, no problem for travel dates, but for people of a certain age, scrolling month by month back the the early 1950's takes a little while! You should register as a resident and enter information about your residence in the app. There is no longer a need to stay at a hotel the first night.

Hi Grant, all travelers age 16+ will need to have their own device/app. We recommend taking a screenshot since it currently does not work when Internet connection (cell data or WiFi) is off.
