In this episode, we welcome Michelle Williams from Om Shanti Belize, a place to “relax, restore, and reconnect to your best self”. As we endure this world crisis, we may all need to do just that to ensure that we emerge from this as our best selves. In these very stressful and uncertain times in the world, we are all feeling some level of stress, anxiety, and depression. It’s a very scary time for everyone, and it is now more important than ever to ensure our mental and physical wellbeing. In this episode, Michelle takes us through her personal journey to achieving mental and physical wellness, and some of the wonderful work she’s doing in Belize to advocate for wellness. We also discuss wellness tourism in Belize and just a few of the things travelers can experience when they visit. The coronavirus pandemic too shall pass, and we invite you to come to Belize when you need to de-stress and reconnect.

Michelle and her mother, Martha, are both certified yoga teachers and reiki practitioners in Belize.  Their journey began when Michelle experienced the benefits of Yoga and Meditation when seeking help for Depression and Anxiety. They are now partners of Om Shanti Belize -YOGA , SPA & WELLNESS CENTER, MARTHA's CAFE & OM SHANTI COTTAGES AT HARBOUR VIEW. Om Shanti is an accredited international yoga school through Yoga Alliance. Many Belizeans have been certified as yoga teachers through Om Shanti. You can find Yoga teachers at many resorts in Belize.

Martha's Cafe is one of the few places in Belize offering Vegan and Vegetarian options. They are open 7am to 10pm.

Michelle is also a founder of the Belize International Yoga Festival.

You can find them both at Om Shanti Belize every day as they both enjoy interacting with their guests. They are located at Harbour View House/Old Customs House, Fort Street, Belize City, Belize.

Michelle tells us that she sees that more travelers to Belize are coming to relax and rejuvenate rather than to break loose and party. She also sees the trend with students on spring break who come to Belize to volunteer and then use some time to rejuvenate and return to school refreshed after a well-deserved break.

Bridal parties also plan yoga retreats in Belize with Om Shanti as part of their destination wedding plans that may also include other activities such as flights over the blue hole and snorkeling our beautiful Belize barrier reef. Om Shanti was recently featured in Signature Bride Magazine promoting yoga retreats for bachelorette parties in Belize.

In this episode, Michelle also talks about some of her work through Rhythm of Change (ROC) Belize. This is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting and implementing activities that bring individual, social and environmental changes in Belize. ROC uses innovative approaches such as yoga, mindfulness and other forms of wellness to promote peace-building and equality between men and women, to mend broken families, in order to create better communities in Belize.
