The trees and forest have taken over guarding the secrets of this place where our ancestors once gazed at the stars, plotted wars, designed and built magnificent structures, developed agricultural practices, and conducted their most sacred rituals. Caracol is the largest Maya archaeological site in Belize. In AD 650, the urban area of Caracol had a radius of approximately 10 kilometers around the center of the site. Caracol maintained a population of over 140,000 people through the creation of an immense agricultural field system and through elaborate city planning. Caracol is noted not only for its size during the Maya Classic era (A.D. 250-950) but also for its prowess in war; this includes an AD 562 defeat of Tikal and the subsequent conquest of Naranjo.

Here we do a river tour and nature trails along the banks of the river, we usually see monkeys, crocodiles, birds, iguanas, and much more.
After about 2 hours up the river, we then head back to monkey river village, here we have lunch at a local restaurant (lunch is not included in the price, bring cash along)
Then after lunch, we then go do Manatee watching off the boat for about 30 minutes and then we depart back to Placencia Village

Tucked into a limestone ridge in the Upper Macal River Valley is Che Chem Ha Cave (Poisonwood water). Accessing the cave involves a 40-minute drive on the unpaved road and a 35 minutes ... morehike along jungle-lined trails. Once inside the cave, journey into the underworld – Xibalba – through nine levels using ladders and ropes. The Maya believed that the underworld encompassed 9 of the 22 layers of life. They would often leave offerings (sometimes human sacrifices) to their gods, most likely their rain god ‘Chaac’ during times of drought.

When you arrive prepare to dismount and let your horse as you explore the temples and plazas on foot.
Climb the impressive 130 feet tall temple ‘El Castillo’ and discover the breathtaking panoramic view of the Belizean and Guatemalan landscape. Enjoy a water massage from cascading waterfalls that run over a wide riverbed and smooth granite rocks. After a 20 minutes hike including numerous wooden stairways and climbing over boulders, you will arrive at the bottom where the 150-foot waterfall stands. This waterfall is a sight to behold and after your hike, the cool spray of mist from the waterfall is refreshing as you swim in the clear, deep pool below. "
