Snorkeling at Hol Chan, visiting the nurse sharks and the stingrays, snorkeling with the manatees, feeding the tarpons, and visiting the seahorses definitely needs a whole day. This ... moreis a full day full of Fun! Pick-up time can either be 8:00 am or 8:30 - you decide. The first stop is at Hol Chan - "Little Channel". That is our first snorkeling stop. Once completed, less than 3 minutes boat ride we get to Shark and Ray Alley. Here you can either stay on the boat and snap pictures or go in the water to SWIM with marine species like nurse sharks, stingrays, horse-eye jacks, and much more fish. We bring sardines to feed them...
After that, we move towards our sister island Caye Caulker. We head to the Northern Channel where we go look out for the manatees. Once spotted, you get on your snorkeling gear and go in to snorkel with them. So Marvelous!
We then go to the island and visit the famous "Split" which divides the island into two parts that were caused in 1961 by hurricane Hattie. On the leeward part of the island, we go to feed the big tarpons from the boat - if you are brave enough! Lol. Not too far we have the seahorse city reserve. You get to look at them. Once all of this is done, normally around 12:30 pm we go to the island to walk and find a restaurant of your choice where you will have lunch. Lunch is not included in this tour. Silk Cayes, also known as Queen Cayes, is a group of picture-card-perfect small coral islands ranging in size from half to 4 acres. Located just inside the Belize Barrier Reef, Silk ... moreCayes have beautiful white beaches surrounded by turquoise seas and are occupied by about a dozen coconut trees! Silk Cayes are part of a marine reserve established to protect the outer reef and cayes and have an abundance of aquatic life, fish stocks, coral reef biodiversity, and healthy corals. A typical day of snorkeling includes a briefing by the park rangers before your licensed snorkel guide leads you into the water to take you on a tour of the abundant and varied coral and to meet the local residents. If you have not snorkeled before, no problem. Our guides are happy to show you the ins and outs of snorkeling and show you the coral and those who inhabit it. Critters include spotted drums, huge lobsters, cleaner shrimp, arrow crabs, snapper, barracuda, and more varieties of reef fish than you can count. Around mid-day, you’ll enjoy an authentic Belize-style picnic lunch. Often divers go out on the same boat and they join the snorkelers for lunch. This makes Silk Cayes a great destination for families or couples when some are divers and some are snorkelers. After lunch, head back into the water to explore the coral and meet more of the denizens who make Silk Cayes their home. But the best is still to come! After the second snorkel expedition and the divers return to the caye, we all head to a spot just inside the barrier reef where local fishermen clean their catch and where you are almost certain to have the opportunity to snorkel with huge turtles, rays, and sharks. Here is your chance for a great nose-to-nose photo with a very large turtle.

From there you board a private vehicle with your guide as you begin your road trip to Altun Ha Mayan Ruin: Altun Ha is an ancient Mayan City about 30 miles north of Belize City, dating back to about B.C. 900. It is believed the city was occupied for centuries up until A.D. 1000, covering the classic period A.D. 250-900, the time from which most of the information of this city was gathered and the time when the city was at its height.
The name Altun Ha means “Rockstone Water”, and it is derived from the name of a nearby village called Rockstone Pond, but Altun-Ha’s ancient name remains unknown. The largest temple of Altun Ha is the Temple of the Masonry Altars which stands 54 feet high. The Sun God’s Tomb is also found on this temple dated for about A.D. 600-650, in which researchers found a skeleton and various artifacts when the tomb was excavated. The Mayans made use of the land and its terrains, as they did so above the surface they also did so below the surface. The Mayans believed that the caves were an entrance to Xibalba “a place of fear” related to death. It is completely so because the Mayans used the caves to perform death rituals and also the river flowing through these caves provided a secret passageway to ambush enemies.
Cave Tubing into a cave system at Caves Branch. After reaching the Caves Branch Archaeological Reserve you will hike for about 30 minutes through the Belize Rain Forest and through a couple of dry caves until you come to the opening of the first cave through which the underground Caves Branch river flows. This is where the REAL fun begins as you will be assisted in getting into your inner tube to begin floating through the caves. It's a short but amazing journey of about 45 minutes to an hour. Our tubes with headrests are linked so there is no need to hold onto someone else's feet and you are guided by a licensed and experienced tour guide :) At the end of the tour, we will head back to the water taxi terminal.
