About Location
Quiet and Tranquil. Independence is exactly portrayed in it's name. In this quant little village, you will feel liberated from the busy bustling and hustling of the go-go-life. Being the main hub to other smaller, nearby villages, Independence is the home of the Big Creek Water Port and the Banana Growers Association at the port. The Big Creek Water Port serves as the main point of entry and departure for the fruit and oil industries. Surely there is much to learn here as you visit the banana farms or take a stroll down the streets of Independence.

Placencia Lobster Fest The Lobster Fest in Placencia began in 1998 as a way to celebrate the culture and traditional heritage of the Placencia Peninsula. It is also a fundraising event ... morefor the Placencia Village Council and the Placencia Chapter of the Belize Tourism Industry Association, where all proceeds from the festival go towards improving the local economy and providing scholarships for local youth. The event plays a major role in sustaining local businesses during the low tourism season. This is the second segment of the Belize Lobster Festival and usually hosts plenty of fun and lively entertainment, games and music.
