Highlights
  • Climb El Castillo for spectacular views.
  • Cross the Mopan River by hand-cranked ferry.
  • See ancient Maya carvings and sacred sites.
  • Float through Belize’s sacred limestone caves.
  • Experience two Maya worlds in one unforgettable day.
Description
Cross the Mopan River the old-fashioned way, on a hand-cranked ferry, and the ancient city of Xunantunich rises before you out of Belize's jungle. You climb El Castillo, one of the tallest structures in all of Belize, until the whole Maya heartland unfolds at your feet, a rolling green sea stretching to the Guatemalan border. Up here, beside carved stucco friezes of gods and rulers, your guide brings the plazas and ball courts back to life with the stories of the people who built them more than a thousand years ago.

In the afternoon you trade the high ground for the deep dark. You ease into an inner tube, and the river pulls you gently into a cavern of dripping stone, where headlamps sweep over stalactites, and the temperature drops to a refreshing cool. The ancient Maya believed these caves were the threshold of Xibalba, the underworld, and as you drift through the silent chambers, it is easy to feel why they came here to leave offerings to their gods.

It is a day that spans two Maya worlds, the soaring sunlit city above and the sacred river below, bookended by an easy ride to and from the Placencia peninsula. You will come home with a camera full of jungle and stone, and a real sense of how deeply this land is woven with its history.

Special Instructions for Rates
This rate applies to all participants on the tour: children, teens, youth, and adults. There's no price difference for each individual, as we pay the same for entrance, parking fees, and meals; they each will occupy a seat, and we still need to guide them with extra care and attention. For these reasons, the price is the same across the board.

Frequently Asked Questions
We keep groups small on purpose, usually 3 to 10 guests, so your guide has time for you. If you'd prefer a fully private trip for your family or friends, just ask, and we'll arrange it.
It depends on the tour. River trips and Maya ruin visits are easy and family-friendly, while the Cockscomb hikes and ATM cave are moderate to challenging, with climbing, wading, and uneven terrain. Each tour page lists a difficulty rating, and we're happy to help you pick one that fits your group.
Cancel at least 48 hours before your tour for a full refund of your deposit. Inside 48 hours we can usually reschedule you to another date, and weather cancellations on our end are always refunded in full or rebooked at no cost.
Book right here on the site or message us directly, and we'll confirm by email within a day. High-season trips (December to April) and border crossings like Tikal fill up fast, so we recommend booking at least a week ahead, though we'll always try to fit you in on shorter notice.
Many are. Chocolate making, the Maya ruins, and gentle waterfall trips are great for families with children, while the ATM cave and some ATV routes have age and height minimums for safety. Tell us your kids' ages, and we'll point you to the right adventures.

Terms & Conditions
1. Booking & Payment:
A booking is confirmed once payment has been received.
Full payment is due before the scheduled tour date, unless otherwise agreed in writing.
All prices are quoted in USD and are not guaranteed until a booking is confirmed with payment.

2. Cancellation by Guest — Refund Policy:
For cancellations 48 hours or more before the scheduled departure, a full refund is available less any non-recoverable third-party costs already paid on the guest's behalf, such as permits, reserve fees, or equipment rental.
Cancellations made less than 48 hours before departure are non-refundable. At our sole discretion, a credit toward a future booking may be offered instead.
No-shows are treated as late cancellations and are non-refundable.
Cancellation requests must be submitted in writing to wilderbelizeadventures@gmail.com.

3. Safety Cancellations or Changes:
Wilder Belize Adventures may cancel, postpone, reroute, or modify a tour where our guides or local authorities determine it is necessary for guest safety. This includes weather, unsafe trail, water, cave, or site conditions, government closures, mechanical failure, insufficient minimum participants, or other conditions where safety cannot reasonably be assured.
If a tour is cancelled before it begins, we may offer a full refund, rescheduling, or credit toward a future tour. If a tour is shortened or modified after departure, no refund is owed for the portion already delivered, though a partial credit may be offered at our discretion. Safety decisions made by guide staff on the ground are final.

4. Assumption of Risk & Release of Liability:
Outdoor and adventure activities, including hiking, caving, ziplining, snorkeling, diving, boating, and jungle or river excursions, carry inherent risks of injury, illness, or death that cannot be eliminated.

Guests assume all risks of participation, including risks arising from the ordinary negligence of Wilder Belize Adventures, its guides, staff, or agents, except where caused by gross negligence or willful misconduct.
Guests release and hold harmless Wilder Belize Adventures, its owners, employees, guides, and affiliates from claims, liabilities, damages, or expenses arising from participation in a tour or activity.
Guests must follow all safety instructions given by guides and staff.

5. Health, Fitness & Suitability:
Guests must disclose medical conditions, physical limitations, allergies, or fitness concerns that could affect safe participation before the tour begins.
We may refuse or remove a guest from an activity if participation poses a safety risk to that guest or others.
By booking, guests confirm they are physically fit for the activity level of their selected tour.

6. Travel Insurance:
We strongly recommend comprehensive travel insurance covering trip cancellation, medical expenses, evacuation, and adventure-activity risks. Wilder Belize Adventures is not responsible for losses that adequate travel insurance would have covered.

7. Force Majeure:

9. Changes to Itinerary:
We may substitute guides, vehicles, equipment, routes, or sites with a comparable alternative without prior notice where necessary for operational or safety reasons. This does not constitute a material change to the booking.

10. Limitation of Liability:
To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total liability for a claim arising from a booking is limited to the amount paid for that tour. We are not liable for indirect or consequential damages, including lost time, missed connections, or unused third-party travel arrangements.

11. Governing Law:
These Terms & Conditions are governed by the laws of Belize. Disputes are subject to the courts of Belize.
