Tubing through Belize's unique underground cave system is the must-do tour in Belize. After meeting your Belize guide, you will walk to your air-conditioned transportation for the ... moreapproximately one-hour drive to the Caves Branch River and its winding path through the Mayan Mountains and numerous ancient caves.

After picking up your tube, you will walk down to the adjacent river. This will be the spot where you finish your float. You will start the adventure by wading across the river, holding onto a rope strung across the water. From here, you will set out on a 30-minute walk along a jungle trail over loose gravel. Guests must be in good shape and able to keep up with the guide on this Belize excursion.

At the entrance of the underground cave system, your guide will hand out miner's lamps before you enter the water. You will float along on the gentle current that will take you through the cave system. Intricate crystalline formations line the cave, and the majestic rise and fall of stalagmites and stalactites add to the serene opulence of nature. The floating part of the adventure lasts approximately two hours, depending on the current, and brings you back to the starting location of your Belize excursion.

After the float, walk back up to the transportation for the drive to the pier.

Please Note: As the river bottom is rocky, you must wear shoes (sneakers or water shoes) while tubing, and they will get wet. Do not forget a towel and dry shoes for after the tour. Guests with special dietary requirements may need to bring a snack or power bar, as the tour duration is five hours. Guests must be a minimum age of 8 years old and 48" in height. Tour times listed are in local time.

INLAND BLUE HOLE BIRDWATCHING Belize is a birdwatcher’s paradise! As many as 587 birds have been recorded in Belize and, of these, approximately 20 percent are migrants from North ... moreAmerica. Every year new species are documented. Eight new records were accepted in 2007, including the Crested Caracara, Canada Goose, and Spot-breasted Oriole. For those interested in exploring the diversity and beauty of the avifauna of the diverse habitats MayaWalk expert birdwatching guides will point out tiny iridescent hummingbirds, impressive raptors, and various migratory and endemic songbirds. One of the best places to go on a Belize birding tour is St. Herman’s Blue Hole National Park, a beautiful protected area along the scenic Hummingbird Highway.

This small park covers 575 acres and has two natural features open for touring, St. Herman’s Cave: a beautiful crystalline cave in the limestone hills, and the Blue Hole: a clear sinkhole filled with turquoise waters, perfect for a swim. A series of lovely hiking trails over various landscapes take visitors into the jungle where the foliage, tropical flowers, and rainforest canopy are the feeding and nesting grounds for hundreds of species of birds. For those interested in finding out more about the amazingly diverse avifauna of Belize we recommend purchasing Birds of Belize (University of Texas Press) by H. Lee Jones, illustrated by Dana Gardner-- a must-have for serious birders. Published in 2003, this is the first complete guide to the identification of all the birds of Belize and it is beautifully illustrated and complete with habitat information. Our birding guides will be equipped with binoculars and a spotting scope to make the most of your birding experience. Enjoy the serene trails of the park and end the day with a lovely swim in the Blue Hole.

Crystal Cave Tour Locally known as the Mountain Cow Cave, this stunning, other-worldly Crystal Cave is located deep in the jungle, in the heart of the Blue Hole National Park, along ... morewith the scenic Hummingbird Highway. We leave San Ignacio in the morning and head towards Belmopan, we pass the capital city and proceed along the scenic Hummingbird Highway, crossing green mountains, passing fragrant orange orchards, pineapple plantations, and rainforest-draped valleys along the way. The Blue Hole National Park is a picturesque and easily accessible protected area managed by the Belize Audubon Society.

After a 50-minute hike through the tropical forest, we reach the cave entrance, where we rappel 15 feet into the cavernous entrance to the cave. We will traverse through the large chambers of the cave, sliding down mud ramps and scrambling along rocks. This is a challenging descent into Xibalba, the Mayan realm of the underworld. Your guide will show you the shimmering formations in the cave, along with artifacts and the skeletal remains of sacrificial victims from the time of the ancient Maya. We will witness the remnants of the past as we discover centuries-old fire pits, wall carvings, pottery, and other relics, as well as impressive crystal formations and stalactites and stalagmites.

This tour is physically demanding but well worth the effort as we walk in the footsteps of the Mayan ritual leaders and see the evidence of their ceremonies with our own eyes. After our cave exploration, you can take time to eat a hearty homemade lunch, enjoy a refreshing soft drink and swim in the vibrant waters of the Blue Hole, an inland cenote (a deep sinkhole that is filled with rain and spring water). Come to feel the thrill!
