Previously, we posted a blog about spending 5 Days in Cayo, Belize; and, it's only fair that we do the same for those who love the sand, sun and sea. It's time to pull out those beach towels and flip flops and spend 5 Days in San Pedro and Caye Caulker. Here are 5 days in San Pedro and Caye Caulker in Belize:
  1. Snorkel/Diving/Snuba Diving
  2. Caye Caulker Catamaran Sail
  3. The Great Blue Hole
  4. Fishing
  5. Barbecue Catamaran & Sunset Sail

Day 1: Snorkel | Diving | Snuba Diving

Marine life in Belizean waters is simply stunning. As of June 26, 2018, the Belize Barrier Reef Reserve System is officially off UNESCO's In Danger List. This barrier reef is the world's second largest living barrier reef coral system, which also provides homes to many species of aquatic animals. These would include nurse sharks, moray eels, sting rays, whale sharks, dolphins, sea turtles and many types and sizes of fish. There is so much to explore under these beautiful turquoise waters; and, a great way to do so is going snorkeling - or diving if you are a certified diver! If you can't choose between the two, then get the best of both worlds by going snuba diving!

A few of the most popular snorkeling and diving destinations in Belize are

the Split (Caye Caulker) and Caye Caulker Marine Reserve (Caye Caulker)
Be sure to take an underwater camera to capture the spectacular underwater views! Don't believe us? Check out our awesome video snorkeling at Coral Gardens and Shark Ray Alley! You can also read our Caye Caulker snorkeling adventure blog!

Day 2: Caye Caulker Catamaran Sail

If you are staying in San Pedro and would like to take a day trip to Caye Caulker, then you can do that with a catamaran sail to Caye Caulker. What's better than kicking back and enjoy the sea breeze on a catamaran? On your way to Caye Caulker, your tour provider can take you to snorkel at Hol Chan Marine Reserve or another snorkeling destination. Once your boat docks at Caye Caulker, you can roam through the streets, shops and restaurants of the island for an hour or two before sailing back to San Pedro. This trip usually includes a booze cruise at the return journey along with great “bocas” such as ceviche and salsa.

Day 3: The Great Blue Hole

One of Belize's popular points of interests is the infamous Great Blue Hole. The Great Blue Hole, in aerial view, is a deep blue attraction off the coast of Belize. It is a part of the Belize Barrier Reef Reserve System and one of seven wonders of Belize's World Heritage Sites. Going down four hundred feet deep, the sinkhole is adorned with giant stalactites, stalagmites, stone columns and drip stone sheets.
This massive submarine sinkhole is on any certified diver's must-dive bucket list. Dive excursions to the Blue Hole are full-day trips that usually include a dive in the Blue Hole and other nearby diving sites, along with an option to snorkel.

As well as snorkeling and diving at The Great Blue Hole, you can also fly over the Blue Hole! You can read our blog or watch our video about our cool experience flying over The Great Blue Hole with Belize Concierge Excellent!

Day 4: Fishing

Fishing trips can be half day or full day. After diving and snorkeling at the Great Blue Hole, you must be a bit tired and would like to take it easy. You can do so with a half day fishing trip and then spend the other half of the day relaxing on hammock by the beach or go exploring in the town. Just picture yourself in a fishing boat, surrounded by clear turquoise waters with the warm sun beaming above you while a light sea breeze blows by you, just anticipating a nibble on your hook. Overall, fishing is a fun activity by yourself, along with a guide, or as a small group of four. Just remember, fishing does not guarantee catching!
Belize’s Barrier Reef is home to many species of fish and other marine animals. You can conduct deep sea fishing, reef fishing, and flat/sport fishing.
  • Reef Fishing: Fishing within or near the reefs is a great family activity. Some of the fishes you can catch are yellowtail snappers, groupers, barracudas and mutton snappers.
  • Flat Fishing: This is conducted at the mangrove lines of lagoons and flats, which is to the back of the island. You will be fishing for bonefish, tarpon and permit. Common catches are barracudas, common snooks and jack crevalle.
  • Deep Sea Fishing: If you want to reel in bigger game fishes, then you should try deep sea fishing in deeper waters. This is conducted outside of Belize’s Barrier Reef. You can catch wahoos, dorados, and billfishes.

Day 5: Barbecue Catamaran & Sunset Sail

On your last day of you should experience the beautiful Caribbean Sea one more time before you depart. We know, it's sad that you must leave paradise. But don't worry, at least you'll have a fun and memorable ending. On a barbecue catamaran sail, you'll get to go snorkeling, fishing, sun bathing and enjoy some finger-licking fish barbecue and ceviche with an ice-cold beer on the side. But don't drink too much beers just yet! There's a sunset cruise where you can enjoy even more ceviche, beers, sodas, and rum punch. Relish the beautiful beams of sunlight in the twilight sky. When dusk breaks in, be the first to spot a night star.

In addition to these activities on the islands, you can also relax under the sun and enjoy the great ambiance of the beach. The great thing about traveling in Belize is the versitility of the country that can cater to all your vacation needs.

Snorkeling at Hol Chan, visiting the nurse sharks and the stingrays, snorkeling with the manatees, feeding the tarpons, and visiting the seahorses definitely needs a whole day. This ... moreis a full day full of Fun!
Pick-up time can either be 8:00 am or 8:30 - you decide. The first stop is at Hol Chan - "Little Channel". That is our first snorkeling stop. Once completed, less than 3 minutes boat ride we get to Shark and Ray Alley. Here you can either stay on the boat and snap pictures or go in the water to SWIM with marine species like nurse sharks, stingrays, horse-eye jacks, and much more fish. We bring sardines to feed them...
After that, we move towards our sister island Caye Caulker. We head to the Northern Channel where we go look out for the manatees. Once spotted, you get on your snorkeling gear and go in to snorkel with them. So Marvelous!

We then go to the island and visit the famous "Split" which divides the island into two parts that were caused in 1961 by hurricane Hattie. On the leeward part of the island, we go to feed the big tarpons from the boat - if you are brave enough! Lol. Not too far we have the seahorse city reserve. You get to look at them. Once all of this is done, normally around 12:30 pm we go to the island to walk and find a restaurant of your choice where you will have lunch. Lunch is not included in this tour. We depart from Caye Caulker to San Pedro around 3:00 pm.

Six miles north of San Pedro Town in North Ambergris Caye, you will find one of the most beautiful snorkel sites known as Mexico Rocks & Tres Cocos. Unlike many of the snorkeling ... morespots in Belize that are right on the barrier reef, Mexico Rocks & Tres Cocos is a star coral patch that is located in the shallow waters midway between the great barrier reef and the island of Ambergris Caye.

Mexico Rocks are known for many conches, banded shrimps, arrow crabs, grunts, yellowtail snappers, and an assortment of Butterfly and Angelfish. Tres Cocos is named after three tall coconut trees on shore used to locate the site. The reef here gets as shallow as four feet. Here you will find the most beautiful corals, colorful species of both large and small fishes, shrimp, parrotfish, fairy basslet, sea urchins, spider crabs, lobster, and many other small critters of the sea. You will also see magnificent elk horns, sea whips, and sea rods that make good protection for juvenile fishes. The highlights of this trip are the mountains of brain coral, which grow up to 20 feet. On the sandy seabed, you might even see stingrays, eagle rays, and peacock flounder. The nurse shark is a common site as well.

Mexico Rocks & Tres Cocos is protected from ocean swells and currents, so it makes for easier snorkeling, perfect for beginners. Depth is only about 6 to 12 feet, so you can see everything up close. Water visibility in this area of the crystal clear Caribbean Sea is about 50 feet or more.
