Belize Birding Festival To celebrate Belize’s avifauna, the Belize Tourism Industry Association (BTIA), in partnership with the Belize Hotel Association (BHA) and the Belize Audubon ... moreSociety (BAS), decided to host the first ever Annual Belize Birding Festival on October 25-28, 2018, in the capital of the country, Belmopan City.

As nature’s best kept secret, Belize offers many birding hotspots for amateur and expert birdwatchers, including six Important Bird Areas (IBAs). Most of these hotspots are nestled in nature reserves that are tropical forests, savannahs, wetlands, islands, and coastal planes. These locations make for an ideal habitat for a diverse collection of birds.
2018 Belize Birding Festival The 2018 Belize Birding Festival will be the first of it's kind in Belize as it celebrates the love for birds and the unique collection of bird species that exist in the country. This birding festival will be hosted at the National Trade and Agriculture Show Grounds in Belmopan City.

Garifuna Settlement Day Commemorating the first arrival of the Garifuna people in 1832, the national holiday of Garifuna Settlement Day was created by Belizean civil rights activist ... moreThomas Vincent Ramos in 1941, which wasn’t recognized as a public and bank holiday until 1977. Celebrated annually on November 19 throughout the country, the Garifuna community hosts street festivals, parades, cultural food sales and other traditional presentations in their location. The most popular locations for celebrating Garifuna Settlement Day are Hopkins, Placencia, and Dangriga.

Traditionally, the celebrations would open with a reenactment of the first arrival on dories along with lively drumming and singing. Following this would include a parade, the Miss Garifuna Pageant, and cultural presentations involving food, drinks, dances and art exhibitions. Garifuna Settlement Day is an important day for the country to honor and commemorate the historical and cultural importance of the Garifuna community.

2018 Garifuna Settlement Day This year’s Garifuna Settlement Day celebrations will be held under the theme, “Lidan Nei Uarani Awanseruni…Mabuleida Wame,” which translates to, “Progress Lies in Unity…Always Remember It.” Although it is most popular in Hopkins, Dangriga, and Placencia, locations such as San Pedro Town and Belize City host processions in traditional Garifuna clothing, drumming, Cultural Awareness Week and even fashion shows.
