Hol Chan Marine Reserve is located off the southern tip of Ambergris Caye. Mayan for '' little channel''. Hol Chan Marine Reserve is undoubtfully one of the most popular dive sites ... morein the Caribbean, and indeed in Belize. The entire reserve focuses on a cut through the reef ( called a Quebrada ) which is little more than 25 yards wide and 30 feet deep about 04 miles southeast of San Pedro. Hole Chan has burgeoned into a unique refuge, with vigorous coral formations and richness of marine life. Realizing the importance of the coral reef community off Ambergris Caye, Belize, the Government of Belize established the Hole chan Marine Reserve on May 02. 1987. Shark Ray Alley was officially declared Zone ''D'' of the Hole Chan Marine Reserve on August 31st,1999.

We will then head to the neighboring Shark Ray Alley, where you will snorkel or dive and be able to get up close and personal with ecstatic Nurse Sharks and Southern Stingray. When you arrive, you will see surface often bolling with rolling sharks and stingray as they compete for the scraps. these creatures have a great tolerance for divers and snorkelers. The rays, which have a 'wing-span' of two to four feet, swim directly towards the divers, mouths often turned up hoping for a handheld tad bit to be placed near their mouths. The docile Nurse sharks average four feet in length and can be a bit more aggressive than the stingrays.H ere you will feel the excitement and novelty of swimming with a large number of sharks and stingrays.

Six miles north of San Pedro Town in North Ambergris Caye, you will find one of the most beautiful snorkel sites known as Mexico Rocks & Tres Cocos. Unlike many of the snorkeling ... morespots in Belize that are right on the barrier reef, Mexico Rocks & Tres Cocos is a star coral patch that is located in the shallow waters midway between the great barrier reef and the island of Ambergris Caye.

Mexico Rocks are known for many conches, banded shrimps, arrow crab, grunts, yellowtail snappers, and an assortment of Butterfly and Angelfish. Tres Cocos is named after three tall coconut trees on shore used to locate the site. The reef here gets as shallow as four feet. Here you will find the most beautiful corals, colorful species of both large and small fishes, shrimp, parrotfish, fairy basslet, sea urchins, spider crabs, lobster and many other small critters of the sea. You will also see magnificent elk horns, sea whips and sea rods that make good protection for the juvenile fishes. The highlights of this trip are the mountains of brain coral, which grow up to 20 feet. On the sandy seabed, you might even see stingrays, eagle rays, and peacock flounder. The nurse shark is common sites as well.

Mexico Rocks & Tres Cocos is protected from ocean swells and currents, so it makes for easier snorkeling, perfect for beginners. Depth is only about 6 to 12 feet, so you can see everything up close. Water visibility in this area of the crystal clear the Caribbean Sea is about 50 feet or more.

The reef patch at Mexico Rocks ... moreis virtually monospecific, composed of 83% montastrea annwaris, the major reef framework builder and no lateral biotic zonation caused by different wave energy. This tour is combined with Tres Cocos, which is another popular snorkeling site in Belize. The best part? Both of these locations can be experienced in a half day.

The owners of Blue Tang Inn wanted a traditional sailboat for their guests that modeled the typical fishing boats in Belize. The 40 foot “Blue Mermaid” is made out of hardwoods found ... morein Belize, including Santa Maria, Bullet, and Mahogany. The traditional style and quality craftsmanship were maintained but we have added a diesel inboard engine, bathroom and plumbing fixtures and modern window hardware and lighting. The boat has a very unique style with its cabin shape and wide beam. It's a perfect boat for an awesome sunset sail.
