For our Southern Belize adventures, we got the chance to explore the Mopan and Yucatec Maya culture with Mr. Ernesto and Mrs. Aurora from Nuuk Che’il Cottages. Through food, medicine and spiritual healing, we got a glimpse of traditional Maya practices and their role in the Maya life.

Where is Nuuk Che’il Cottages?

Located in Maya Center Village, Nuuk Che’il is just a 5-minute walk off the Southern Highway, on the same road leading to Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary. Maya Center is also in close proximity of Hopkins Village (21 km) and Placencia (49 km).

How to get to Nuuk Che’il Cottages?

You can find yourself at Nuuk Che’il Cottages by public transportation (bus), private vehicle, rental vehicle or by shuttle.

We made it to Nuuk Che’il Cottages by bus and departed by shuttled courtesy of Belize Ground Shuttle. The bus fare to Maya Center from Belmopan was $13 BZD and bus fare to Belmopan from San Ignacio was $3BZD, totaling to $16 BZD per person.

What is the cost to stay at Nuuk Che’il Cottages?

Prices for staying at Nuuk Che’il Cottages would vary depending on your room option. A private room costs $137 BZD per night while shared bunk beds cost $50 per bed and camping on premises costs $17 BZD per night.

What to bring along to Nuuk Che’il Cottages?

Nuuk Che’il Cottages is an all-inclusive B&B that offers amenities such as complementary coffee and water, air conditioning and private hot/cold bath for customers booking either a private room or shared bunking. For campers, Nuuk Che’il offers a shared bathroom and complementary coffee.

Some items you would want to bring to Nuuk Chei’l would be shampoo, toothbrush, toothpaste, insect repellent, and snacks if you’re always peckish. For campers, you’ll be required to bring your town tents and camping gear.
