Once we come to the banks of the Mopan River, we will cross on a hand-operated ferry before arriving across grassy plazas, where you will marvel at the architecture of El Castillo, one of the largest Maya Temples of Belize, and the largest structure at Xunantunich. El Castillo stands 130 feet above plaza level, with its reconstructed East and West friezes representing the Gods of the Maya and several inner chambers. We’ll also move through other temples and courtyards where kings, queens, and their elite carried out special ceremonies. Xunantunich has an excellent display center at the site, and you will have a chance to climb the “stairway to heaven” on El Castillo. This vantage point provides a breathtaking panoramic view of surrounding rivers and towns as well as Guatemala. After the tour, we enjoy a nice meal at a local restaurant in the town of San Ignacio. A few hundred meters beyond the banks of this revealing lagoon concealed by the rainforest is Lamanai Mayan Site. This Mayan city bears a powerful history that it still inspires the feeling of supremacy, that it once held. With about 95% of the city still remaining unexposed, you can experience the sudden presence of the temples as you trail along the jungle paths. Lamanai is found within a reserve of wildlife and plants, where along the marked paths you will come across labeled trees and plants and various other wildlife creatures.
The tour offers a complimentary hour & 30 minutes Water Taxi transfer to Belize City where you will journey along Caye Caulker, Caye Chapel, and mangroves and get a glimpse of St. George’s Caye before arriving at the commercial City of Belize where you will meet your tour guide. We depart early to visit one of the most impressive archeologically excavated sites in Belize. See the temple named Canaa, the tallest man-made structure in the country. Caracol was ... morebuilt by the Maya commencing around 300 B.C. and was prosperous until the 800's A.D. It is located on the Vaca Plateau in the Maya Mountains. Right next to the Chiqibul Forest Reserve. On the way back we make a stop at the scenic Rio On Pools to take beautiful pictures or take a swim in the refreshing water.
The Caracol tour is a Combo and includes on the way a visit to the Rio Frio Cave. This cave has a huge entrance and beautiful formations with the Rio Frio passing through it. You get an opportunity to take pictures and explore the cave.
