One is done at the channel and the second one is done at Barracuda Alley. After a fun day of snorkeling, we stop at the beach to eat delicious rice and beans. Once the food is served and everyone is happy, we jump onboard and make our way through the river that splits Mexico with Belize. While crossing, be on the lookout for birds, fishes, rays, and sometimes even manatees. After exiting the river, we stop at the information section where you learn some history from the Mayans and the island of Ambergris Caye. This information site has a tower that you can climb. The view from up there is amazing. After leaving the information center, we make our way from the back part of the island. If the group is not tired, we can stop at an isolated beach for the kids and family to swim a little. The total cost for this tour is $600 USD for the charter. Day 2: CARACOL MAYA RUINS (FULL DAY)
After breakfast, we drive to Caracol as we traverse through the Mountain Pine Ridge area. The road travels over a series of creeks, through lush tropical forests and pine forests, habitat for a variety of bird species. The highest canopy rainforest is home to several species of cats, as well as rare birds such as the Keel-Billed Mot Mot, Crested Guan, Great Curassow, and the Occelated Turkey. A wide variety of orchids, vines, and trees are also found in the area. This site is home to the tallest man-made structure in Belize, Canna (sky palace), standing some 143 ft above the plaza floor. The discovery of Alter 23, which shows bound captives, indicates that Caracol was an extremely fierce and war-like center. This tour will be combined with a visit to the Rio Frio Caves and the Rio On Pools on the way back.

The hike to the cave entrance through the lush Tapir Mountain Nature Reserve requires visitors to swim to the mouth of the cave and then wade through ankle to chest high water and once inside the magnificent cave, the exploration begins. The tour requires climbing and swimming as well as crawling through small spaces. The cave is extensively decorated with cave formations in the upper passages, a labyrinth of dry chambers which lead to the cathedral-like main hall, a towering chamber 350 meters in length and 50 meters wide, and filled with artifacts and sacrificial remains. Visitors remove shoes and explore the cave in socks only, to protect the artifacts on the cave floor. After this, another climb takes you to the stone sepulchre (after which the cave is named) where the Crystal Maiden lies. Photography is now disallowed inside the cave unless special permits are obtained.
This is an extraordinary Belize adventure and a rare opportunity to see ancient Maya ceremonial sites and altars as they were and virtually untouched for centuries.
