About Event

Belize Independence Day

Belize was a British Crown Colony since 1862. On September 21, 1981, Belize was declared an independent nation, free from Britain’s ruling. Annually, to celebrate this historic moment, the entire month of September is filled with festivities, activities, and celebrations that show the citizens’ patriotism for the country. Parades, carnivals, concerts, fireworks shows, and other functions are held countrywide by councils to commemorate this important public and bank holiday.

2023 Belize Independence Day

Each year, September celebrations are held under a theme that is chosen from a list of submissions. The 2023 theme is yet to be determined. Nonetheless, the celebrations will be just as vibrant and lively as in previous years. This public and bank holiday is celebrated countrywide.

Why should you be interested in Belize’s Independence Day?

There is nothing more positive and enthusiastic than Belizeans and their love for their country. Patriotism is greatly shown at September parades, concerts, fireworks shows, and other special events. Come and join the celebrations as the thirty-seventh anniversary of Belize is observed.

It’s an extraordinary full day experience! It’s been said and a lot of people know it, Hol Chan & Shark Ray Alley features some of the most beautiful fishes and corals in Belize. ... moreDive centers from all over the country bring tourists to snorkel here.

After some hours of snorkeling, we head on to the north Channel of Caye Caulker to try to spot Manatees followed by tarpon feeding and a sea horse watch then to the quaint island of Caye Caulker just about 20 minutes from San Pedro Town. You will get the chance to meet the sociable people of this island, enjoy delicious seafood at a local restaurant on the beach for lunch, maybe relax a little at the famous Split while you sip on a Belikin, or also shop around for gifts and souvenirs.

On our way back, maybe if we still have time, stop at a snorkeling spot near San Pedro Town for a quick dip onto the water before the day is over.
