BARTON CREEK TOURS
Barton Creek is a remote cave that, like many of the subterranean caverns of Belize, was used by the ancient Mayan people for ceremonial purposes. This is a relaxed, ... morebut exciting canoe trip inside a mountain on an ancient waterway where you can observe grand cathedral ceilings in the cave, as well as numerous formations and stalactites and stalagmites.
We begin our journey through farmland where you can observe the Mennonite community of Upper Barton Creek and experience their traditional lifestyle. We then reach Barton Creek Cave, much of which is still to be explored and which stretches for 4.5 miles. We canoe in for one mile exploring the amazing history and geology of this massive cave. At the entrance of the cave, we board our canoes, switch on our headlights and start to slowly paddle into the cave passage. While floating deeper into the passage we learn about the geology, archaeology, and Mayan history of these caves. Our lights will bring to life sparkling crystal formations that are millions of years old. After exploring the caves, we turn our canoes around and float back to park our canoes and complete our half-day tour with a refreshing swim.

+Jungle Zipline
After the relaxing canoe paddle at Barton Creek, you can opt to pump up the adventure and take a stop at our longest aerial canopy zip-lining tour—Ultimo Explorer— which is more than 2,700 feet. Each of our four tours offers you a return to the main platform on a 500 ft run via our jungle lift platform. The 2-hour tour is for zip line enthusiasts. It combines the Explorer and Intermedio in over 2,700 feet of a zip line, comprised of 9 runs and 15 platforms, that takes you over and through the jungle. This is a safe and exhilarating way to see the jungle like never before, flying through the treetops!
+Waterfall Big Rock Falls
Big Rock Falls is a 150-foot waterfall flowing over the granite boulders of Privassion Creek. We hike down the escarpment hidden deep in the Mountain Pine Ridge where we come to the stunning waterfall and the crystal pool into which the cascading waterfalls, spray a cooling mist. You can scramble over boulders and see the water rushing past you as you plunge into the pool below. Enjoy the natural beauty of this hidden paradise with a picnic lunch and only the sound of splashing water, birds singing, and wind in the trees to disturb the peaceful solitude.

Located in the Cayo district, between limestone hills covered with lush vegetation, is the Belize Butterfly Ranch and Botanical Collections. Here, you will be able to see a kaleidoscope of exotic butterflies of various species, from iridescent blue to gorgeous orange, dazzling yellow to intriguing gray. The butterflies fly freely in a 3,300-square-foot beautifully landscaped butterfly display. This facility is geared toward conservation, research, and education. There is also a botanical collection of over 120 species of plants, including orchids, many of which are critical to the butterflies’ reproduction and rearing. Your guide will drive you for another 1.5 hours before arriving at Tikal National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Along the way, we will pass small villages, beautiful lakeside scenery, and rolling hills with rainforests and agriculture farms.
Upon arrival at Tikal, we will pay your entrance fees and then your guide will provide an in-depth 4-hour tour of this magnificent site (Our guide speaks fluent English). Tikal is known for its massive pyramid temples, monumental plazas, palaces, and stelae. This is a very significant site in the history of the region and Tikal was the most powerful metropolis in the area for many centuries. It was a prominent player in the Mesoamerican trade route, which extended up through Belize, into Mexico and beyond.
You will also have time to view wildlife such as howler monkeys and coatis, enjoy birding as you spy parrots, toucans, and oscillated turkeys among the trees, as well as sample some of the local culture of modern-day Guatemala. After an extensive tour of the site, we make our way to a local restaurant lunch, including vegan and vegetarian options. Lunch is included in your tour. After lunch, we will have the opportunity to purchase some crafts and souvenirs before heading back across the border to Belize.

What You Can Expect to Explore Tikal on a day trip from Belize!
Visit one of the largest and most important Mayan sites in all of Central America. Your professional guide will pick you up at your San Ignacio hotel for the roughly 1.5-hour drive to Tikal National Park.
You will be assisted in all border crossing procedures to enter Guatemala safely and hassle-free. Be sure to bring your passport! Once inside the park, let your imagination run free as you explore highlights among more than 3,000 structures that archaeologists have excavated so far. Learn about the daily life and religious practices of the ancient Maya while wandering through the maze of the Central Acropolis, and envision the excitement of an elite sporting match on the ball courts. Tikal boasts an array of magnificent ceremonial temples. Climb the steep staircase of the 144-foot (44-meter) Temple of the Grand Jaguar, built to honor a Mayan king. A set of twin pyramids with altars will greet you at complexes Q and R. Marvel at the Temple of the Masks, which was once adorned with intricate ceremonial mask carvings. Perhaps most impressive is the oft-photographed Temple IV, also known as the Double Head Serpent. Our guests are picked up from their resort or hotel as early as 6 am to take a boat or flight over to the mainland. It is an hour boat ride or a short 15-minute flight over to Belize ... moreCity, where you will board our air condition van and head towards the Guatemalan border.
Once there, we will cross into Guatemala, switch vans and start our way toward Tikal. The journey is very scenic and includes stops along the way for shopping at local gift shops and for restroom breaks. After a two-hour journey into Guatemala, we will arrive at Tikal. You will get a guided tour of the site, take pictures, climb some temples, and see some wildlife before heading back to the Belize/Guatemala border.
Since this is an overnight adventure, we will be staying at a resort in San Ignacio town over on the Belize side, near the Belize/Guatemalan borders. You will be able to roam the town at night, maybe even enjoying some tacos or burritos.
Early the following morning, we will pick you up and start our day with a journey toward the caves. Yes, we will take you cave tubing, giving you another adventure you will not forget. After that tour into the Mayan underworld, we will head back to Belize city where you will take a 1 pm boat or flight back to San Pedro, Ambergris Caye.

Xunantunich is a Classic Period ceremonial center. The site core occupies only 300 square meters but the periphery covers several square kilometers. In Group A, Structure A-6 (El Castillo) rises 130 feet above plaza level making it one of the tallest buildings in Belize. On this structure, there are two temples. The lower temple is famous for its large stucco frieze. A mask with larger ears probably represents the sun god. Next, to this mask, there is a moon sign with a border of signs representing Venus.
