Tikal National Park is located in Guatemala, 75 miles west of San Ignacio, or a 2 hrs 30 mins drive. Tikal is the most magnificent of all Mayan archaeological sites. Tikal has its ... morebeginnings around 600 BC and in the late classic period when the architecture excelled in all world capitals, the population was 100,000. The site is dominated by 5 enormous steep limestone temples that rise over 200 ft from the forest floor; only 2 are allowed for climbing. 3000 structures have been identified and 20% have been excavated. The park has an area of 222 sq miles and has had no human settlement for the past 1000 yrs. It is home to 300 species of birds, 5 species of felines, 3 species of primates, deer, anteaters, and snakes making it a true tropical rainforest experience.

TOUR PLAN
DAY 1
We will meet you at 11 am at your place in San Ignacio and drive to the Guatemala and Belize Border. After the customs procedures, we will start the adventure heading to the city of Yaxhá. We will have lunch first and then full of energy we will start the tour. Yaxhá is a contemporary city to Tikal, smaller but no less important, in your tour you can visit the Central Plaza, the Ball Field, the Temple 216, and the Twin Pyramids Complex, and you can immerse yourself in the virgin forest that surrounds.
After the Tour, we will go to our hotel in Tikal National Park.
DAY 2
We will start really early at 4 am our tour guide will be at your hotel to start the Sunrise tour from the highest temple in Tikal: TEMPLE IV. During our walk to the temple, we will have time to see the sky and understand how important was astrology for Mayas. We can’t promise to see the sun but we are sure this was the early morning of the Mayas so don’t be angry if is a bit foggy that is part of the adventure.
After Sunrise we will have breakfast and continue with the archaeological tour that we will finish around 11 am.
You will have to relax and at 15.00 we will move to Flores Island
Overnight in Flores
DAY 3
We will give a free day in Flores to discover the island. Around noon we will be back in San Ignacio.

This is a breeding program for the "Royal Rat" or Gibnut. The name "Royal Rat" was given to it after Queen Elizabeth II was served Gibnut meat during her 1985 visit. Gibnut meat is a local delicacy in Belize.
We also have the 100ft tower at the site. At the top of the tower, you are greeted by panoramic views of mountains, jungle, and small towns in every direction. The view is truly breathtaking, especially for watching sunsets or stargazing.

This is an amazing tour that combines single track, double track, and the Maya site of Xunantunich. The challenge starts at the outskirts of San Jose Succotz Village; this portion ... moreis on a single track and is the most rugged part of the ride. We pedal on this hilly terrain dodging tree branches and jumping tree roots. This part of the ride is a bit more technical and rugged; especially when going downhill-staying on the bike is a challenge. After this, we move to a feeder road; a double-track ride in a more open area where you can enjoy a panoramic view of the mountains around the area. The ride continues through the open pasture and through a semi-deciduous forest. to the beautiful river bank where a picturesque single track leads us to the village of San Jose Succotz. Here we cross the Mopan River on a ferry and ride uphill for a mile on a paved road to the Maya Site of Xunantunich, which has the second tallest structure in Belize “El Castillo”. The Yaxha kingdom is estimated to have covered an area of 237 square kilometers (92 sq mi) and to have had a peak population of 42,000 in the Late Classic period. The Yaxhá-Nakum-Naranjo circle is considered the “best-kept secret of the Maya World”, it covers a total area of 37.160ha and is part of the Reserve Maya Biosphere. Abandoned more than 1,000 years ago and lost to the jungle until the 20th century, Tikal is now the crown jewel of ancient Maya cities. During its heyday, Tikal had a large population of around 90,000 people and its rulers dominated the region, regularly battling with nearby dynasties in the Caracol and Xunatunich (both in Belize) before mysteriously being abandoned around the late 800s AD.
Today, Tikal is perhaps most famous for its signature temples located in a grand central plaza. The tallest pyramid, dubbed Temple IV, rises more than 230 feet (70 meters) into the air. Built to celebrate the rain of Yik’in Chan Kawil, it is believed that this temple was built just one century before the entire city was abandoned.
Several other pyramids are clustered around the grand central plaza, including the Temple of the Mask, the Temple of the Jaguar Priest, and the Temple of the Inscriptions. Other signature locations in central Tikal include the “Mundo Perdido” (Lost World) complex which has five different platforms, a large pyramid (known as the Great Pyramid for its size), and an astronomical observatory.
The central core of Tikal is surrounded by more than 200 square miles (550 square kilometers) of unspoiled beauty that thrives with exotic wildlife such as monkeys, jaguars, and colorful birds. The entire Tikal city site has over 3,000 surviving buildings, only a fraction of which have been excavated by archeologists.
Details of note include elaborately carved beams of sapodilla wood used as lintels across the doorways of temples, stone shafts sculpted with figures and writing known as stelae, and a large collection of ceramic, obsidian, and jade objects.
The residential portion of Tikal is estimated to be approximately 23 square miles (60 square km) in size. Further outward, a series of massive earthworks have been discovered, including a 20-foot (six-meter) wide trench. There is also evidence of a series of irrigation canals and causeways that connected the outer regions of the city.
