In the Gladden Spit Silk Cayes Marine Reserve there are 3 small islands called the Silk (or Queen) Cayes. Around these islands and in the reserve one can snorkel for days and not get ... morebored, but there is one spot in particular that we like to call Turtle Alley. Here huge loggerhead turtles come up to stare you in the face, stingrays zoom by and nurse sharks cruise around the bottom, all safe and harmless, unless provoked. These critters hang out in the area waiting for scraps of food which is, most time the unwanted parts of lobsters, fish, and conch, that fishermen catch and clean in the area. They toss the scraps in the water and it makes for a yummy dinner for the critters.

Tour starts in Placencia Village at our private dock. Here you will meet up with your boat crew, get checked in and fitted with gear, we load up on the boat which we already prepped and ready to go after the captain gives a safety briefing. The boat ride is about an hour out to sea. After the boat ride we get ashore the southernmost Silk Cayes, meet the park ranger as he gives us a briefing about the history and the do's and dont's of the park system. Your snorkel guides then steps in and share about the first snorkeling adventure that will be around the island for about an hour. Once done you get to enjoy a beach lunch which is usually a beach BBQ. Then we relax on the beach a bit and let the tummies settle. When the group is ready we get in the boat and we do a boat snorkel around a patch reef which will lead up to the area we call "Turtle Alley" and here is where you get to meet the fun critters, LoggerHead Turtles, Nurse Sharks, Stingrays, and Eagle Rays. We enjoy some encounters with them the get onboard the boat via a provided ladder. When everyone is accounted for we head on back to Placencia as we reminisce on the day of adventure.

This is a very popular tour for those exploring the Cayo District. Your expert guide will take you on a day-long trip to the Mountain Pine Ridge Forest Reserve, where you will get ... moreto explore 3 of its beautiful natural attractions.

Rio Frio Cave has a huge opening and is easily accessible. Just a short walk from the parking lot, you will be able to explore this impressive cave, which has one of the biggest openings in all of Belize. The Rio Frio (Cold River) calmly flows through the cave, and you should be able to spot pieces of ancient Mayan Pottery. The mud in the river is often used for spa treatments, as it is rich with nutrients.

Take a short drive from Rio Free Cave to the very popular Rio On Pools. Your guide will first take you to an overlook where you can take stunning pictures of the natural pools and small waterfalls from above. Then take a short hike down to the pools, which is a great place to enjoy a picnic lunch or cold beverage as you relax in the small pools and waterfalls. Try out the fun natural waterslide, too!

After Rio On Pools, finish your day off with a swim at Big Rock Falls. This is a more challenging hike as you must climb down several sets of steep stairs to reach the falls. The view of the 150-foot falls and swimming in the deeper pools is worth the hike! After climbing back up the stairs, reward yourself with a delicious dinner at the nearby Blancaneaux Lodge, owned by famous filmmaker Francis Ford Coppola. If you still have energy left, ask your guide to show you some hidden small ruins on your way back to San Ignacio.
